a transmission doesnt fail 35k down the road because of a fundamental mistake in the rebuild. if things were done improperly it most likely would have shown itself pretty early on. the transmission drove great until i used redline in it. soon after the syncro's on 2nd and 4th were in pretty bad shape which leads me to think they were not being protected adequately (ie gear oil wasnt doing a good enough job). why would i want to take a chance on a used transmission from somebody i dont know, driven who knows how, when i can spend a bit more and have it done right. when somebody i trust very well who has spent an entire career doing nothing but build for race and high performance drivetrain applications tells me the oil i was using was the worst thing i could have used in it and says it will lead to the symptoms i experienced im going to believe it. i would like to believe when i take the transmission back and they open it up they see they did something wrong and correct the problem, but just don't think you build a business that supplies numerous race drivetrains to teams for 40years by spouting bullshit and doing shitty work. so like i said im sure any number of things could have gone wrong while rebuilding it and i dont rule it out, i just really doubt it. i know alot of people who use and recommend redline it is supposed to be a great product, but if isnt best suited for the application issues will arise. i will probably have it rebuilt, or at least opened up and checked out, and whatever tranny goes back in will have a regular gear oil in it, just in case the synthetic oil was the problem.
